The 2018 American League Champion Series will start on Saturday, October 13, 2018 and will be broadcasted by TBS. It will be a best-of-seven series, using a 2-3-2 format with potential Game 7 taking place on October 21st if necessary.

This year there are three main contenders: Boston Red Sox (+230), Houston Astros (+235), New York Yankees (+280). The Red Sox have had the best record in baseball for the majority of the season, so it’s no surprise to see them as the favorite. Mookie Betts leads the majors with a .342 batting average, J.D. Martinez would have a good chance to win the triple crown (.324 BA, 33 HR, 93 RBI) if it wasn’t for Betts, and left-handed starting pitcher Chris Sale, who has a chance to win the Cy Young, has been on fire this season with an ERA hovering around 2.00 all season long. You really can’t go wrong with a futures bet on the Red Sox, since they’ve been the most dominant team in baseball all season and will likely finish with around 10 more wins than any team in the majors.

As for the Houston Astros, there are a few more questions regarding their chances. Like the Red Sox, the Astros have a great all-around team and even have a better pitching rotation then the Red Sox. However, they’ve gone a little cold at the plate lately and have needed the pitching to allow 0 to 2-3 runs in more games than you’d like from a contender. However, they are the defending World Series Champions, so they could be saving their energy for another repeat run in October.

The New York Yankees have even more questions, and the big one surrounds Aaron Judge and if he will be back to 100% when it comes time to win the pennant. Judge is their best slugger and one of the most feared in baseball, so if he can’t go then you probably shouldn’t place a futures bet on the Yankees.

The 2018 National League Champion Series will start on Friday, October 12, 2018 and will be broadcasted by FOX and FS1. It will be a best-of-seven series, using a 2-3-2 format with potential Game 7 taking place on October 20th if necessary.

The winner of the NLCS is a bit trickier to predict. Prominent sportsbooks currently have the Dodgers at +250 as the favorite, but they are not even winning their division at the moment. And let’s not forget the Dodgers are notorious chokers when the calendar turns to Octobers, so this is far from a safe futures bet and one where you should look elsewhere.

The Chicago Cubs (+350) would probably be considered the safest bet to win the NLCS. Sure, they lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS last season, but the Cubs have been the more consistent and impressive team during 2018. Oh, and they did win the World Series in 2016, so they have experience when it comes to postseason play.

However, if you want a team who is a contender and has a pretty good payout, then look no further than the Milwaukee Brewers at +700. The Brewers are neck-and-neck with the Cubs for the NL Central Division (more on that below), and if they win, they’d likely have the best record in the National League and come into October on a hot streak. Having nearly triple the payout if they win the NLCS makes the Brewers a great futures betting choice.

2018 Division Winner Odds

The winners of each division will officially be decided with the end to the 2018 MLB regular season, which is currently scheduled for September 30, 2018. However, a team will clinch a division once all other teams in the division cannot match the number of wins the leader has accumulated. This means a division winner could be decided much sooner than September 30th.

As mentioned above, the Boston Red Sox are pretty much the unanimous best team in baseball for 2018. The Red Sox currently have -375 odds to win the division and only the New York Yankees (+220) have a chance, but they’re currently behind the Red Sox by 10 games and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays both have +90000 but don’t waste your time or money because these team have no chance of winning the division. As for the Baltimore Orioles (No Odds), they are so bad they quite literally have no chance and no odds to win the division. In fact, let’s not waste time even discussing them so moving on…

Hey, do you want to pay $50000 for a 99.99999999999999999999% chance to win $100? Well, if you have $50k to place a futures bet on the Cleveland Indians (-50000) then you probably don’t really care too much about $100 in the first place. The Minnesota Twins (+2500) and Detroit Tigers (+20000) are great bets if you like wagering on teams who have a 0.00000000000000000001% chance to win. The Chicago White Sox have no odds, and the Kansas City Royals should probably not even have odds for 2019 because they are just that bad.

The American League West is a bit more competitive. The Astros are the heavy favorites at -1000, which wouldn’t be a good future wager. The Seattle Mariners (+900) and the Oakland (+1000) have similar odds but don’t let this deceive you. Sportsbooks have loved the Mariners way too much this season or the oddsmakers might just be sleepless in Seattle; who knows? What you should know is the Athletics are only a few games back and could reasonable catch the Astros to win the division. It’s a bit of a longshot, but not a terrible bet by any means. If you want a terrible futures bet then look at the Los Angeles Angels (+40000) or the Texas Rangers (No Odds). Actually, don’t bother look at the Rangers anymore in 2018 because they are quite literally not worth it. Time to flip over to the National League.

Now this one is a tough. The Philadelphia Phillies (+130) and the Atlanta Braves (+150) are in a dead heat in the NL East division race. It might be best to flip a coin, but we weigh the odds here and avoid using small, flat, round pieces of metal decide our future wagers’ fate. The Braves have a better offense, better pitching and play well at home and away but only by razor-thin margins, so they are the safer bet. The Washington Nationals (+275) odds aren’t too bad, but they have essentially given up in 2018. The New York Mets (+90000) are getting crazy odds if you want to make a crazy bet, and the Miami Marlines (No Odds) might want to consider bring Derek Jeter out of the owner’s box and into the batter’s box if they want future odds for next year.

This is a two-team race to the top between the Chicago Cubs (-190) and the Milwaukee Brewers (+165). The Cubs would be the safer futures bet since they are the veteran team with more experience, but the Brewers are making them earn the division title this year and have stayed within a game or two of the Cubs as of late, making them a pretty good futures bet and with a much better payout than the Cubs. The Pittsburgh Pirates (+2200), the St. Louis Cardinals (+3500), and the Cincinnati Reds (+90000) don’t have a reason shot to win this division. The Pirates and Cardinals could come out of nowhere to win the division and stranger things have happened in baseball. The Reds are going nowhere in 2018 except back to the drawing board to figure out what went wrong this season.

2018 National League West Odds

[table “66” not found /]

This is probably the closest race of all of the divisions, since there are four teams who could eventually end as division winners and each being within just a few games of each other. The Los Angeles Dodgers (-190) are currently the favorites but are not even winning the division at the moment. While some sportsbooks are away in La La Land, the Arizona Diamondbacks (+295) are now the division leaders and is the better futures bet by far, but to be fair these two teams are likely to go back in forth until the season ends. The Colorado Rockies (+500) might sneak up and catch baseball off guard so don’t count them out, and the San Francisco Giants (+3000) are only a few games back, but it’s probably a little bit of a stretch to say they’ll make up that ground. And speaking of ground, the San Diego Padres are at +90000 if you want to bury your money underground and never see it again.
